The Brookfield Education Foundation funded a grant request from Willian Chen, Troop 5, Brookfield, to launch an origami program at the Brookfield Craft Center as part of his Eagle Scout project. The program involves a 5-day class where students, ages 12-17, will be introduced to different styles of origami, the history and cultural component of origami, and basic folding skills.  In addition to creating beautiful origami pieces, students will gain an appreciation for arts and crafts, learn about an art form new to them, and have a base of knowledge should they choose to explore origami more after this program.  Origami also helps with cognitive development, problem solving, concentration for complex tasks, patience, focus, precision, and enhanced motor skills. The program is part of the Craft Center Summer Youth Program currently, with the hope that it will grow and classes will be added for community members of all ages.
