Environmental Greenway Education Trail The Town of Brookfield has been awarded federal funding to create a handicap accessible multi-functional trail along the Still River. The Brookfield Education Foundation will provide funds for development and implementation of signage for this environmental education trail. The goal for this project is to have signage in place for the opening of this greenway, during the summer of 2009. Click here to read the entire story BEF
and Brookfield Senior Center The Foundation recently funded purchase of a Nintendo Wii sports package for the Senior Center, a group of video games that let seniors enjoy bowling and other sports through technology. As people get trained, they learn technology in a comfortable environment, get exercise, practice movement and enjoy “bowling” even if they can no longer hold a bowling ball. The Senior Center plans to hold regular bowling leagues and tournaments. Center Director Ellen Melville reports, “There is the possibility of intergenerational events – grandparent / grandchildren bowling tournaments.” At a recent practice session, 93-year-old Rita Noel showed off the form that won her trophies years ago. Rita hadn’t bowled in over thirty years. Now she is enjoying the sport anew. Phyllis Kara, a team bowler, is recovering from a shoulder injury that keeps her from using her heavy bowling ball. She keeps her skills and form sharp with the Senior Center’s Wii. Keep In Touch
