Letter
from the President
| Thank you for a successful year |
| June, 2010 |
Dear Brookfield Community,
The Brookfield Education Foundation, in this, our annual reflection of the year’s activity, would like to thank our generous donors, who have made possible funding for 6 major grants. We extend our gratitude to the grant recipients as well, for without their creative ideas and energy, these innovative educational programs would not have been possible. A brief review of the grants:
- Rachel’s Challenge
This multi-media program, presented to both the Whisconier students and the Brookfield community, emphasized acts of kindness and stimulated a positive change in the way students treat one another.
- iPads
Members of the Brookfield Senior Center will soon find new technology more accessible and less intimidating, thanks to a grant providing 3 iPads to the center.
- Interactive Response Clickers
Used in conjunction with the smart board learning system at Center Elementary School, the interactive response system increases student engagement and enables teachers to better assess student comprehension.
- Testing and Education Reference Center
This online resource center at the Brookfield Library allows access to practice tests for AP classes, the SAT’s, GRE’s, civil service, and real estate exams, in addition to offering information on scholarships, colleges, and careers.
- Mind Sharpener Program
A
cognitive fitness series to be offered at the Brookfield Senior Center, which aims to improve short-term memory, new learning, visual-motor coordination, cognitive flexibility, and attention.
- Joseph E .Baker Memorial Grant
In memory of our former board member, these collections of books pertaining to topics and interests that Joe enjoyed are available, in age-appropriate formats, at all Brookfield Public Schools and at the Brookfield Library.
Please take a moment to view the 2010 honorees in the Honor an Educator program. Both the scope of educators recognized and the comments made by the nominators are truly inspiring.
Plans are underway for the 2010 gala! Please mark your calendar for the October 23rd “Murder at the Music Awards”, a lighthearted murder mystery involving cocktails, dinner, dancing, and silent auction.
Once again, The Brookfield Education Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Brookfield community. We thrive due to your support!
Best regards,
Colette Sturm
