Frequently
Asked Questions
What is the Brookfield
Education Foundation and how was it started?
The Brookfield Education Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 corporation
with a mission to marshal and provide resources for lifelong learning
by Brookfield residents of all ages.
The foundation was
founded by Carol Dores in early 2004. A longtime resident of Brookfield
with a passion for community activism, Carol saw the progress being made
by other Educational Foundations throughout Connecticut and set out to
create one in Brookfield. Under her direction, the Brookfield Education
Foundation seeks to identify select projects that will benefit the community,
and then sets out to raise the funds necessary to make these projects
a reality.
How
does the Foundation raise money?
We
raise money by soliciting individuals, businesses and charitable
foundations. If you
or your business are
interested in making a tax-deductible
contribution, click here for more information. What
kind of project or activity would be considered for funding?
We typically look for educational programs and projects that would bring
a clear benefit to the community, but that are outside the scope of school
and town budgets. For instance, we're responsible for securing a Praxair
grant to purchase new computers and printers for the Brookfield Public
Library. Currently, we've teamed up with McCaffrey Real Estate, a real
estate marketing company here in Brookfield, to bring a popular Anti Defamation
program back to the high school. We are also helping to create a community
digital video production studio at Brookfield High School.
What's the process for getting the Foundation to consider sponsoring my
project or program?
Visit
the Request
for Funding page on this website for Foundation
contact info. Once we have all the information we need,
the board will evaluate your request along with others we have
received,
and respond
to you within 45 days.
How
can residents help?
There are many ways local residents can help. One way is by supporting
the foundation through regular (tax deductible) contributions. Another
way is by volunteering to assist with specific projects. Check this
website
frequently for updates on the latest Foundation projects. Click
here to download the BEF Donation/Volunteer form.
What
kind of projects are other Educational Foundations pursuing?
In Cheshire, Connecticut, the Cheshire Education Foundation funded a high
school video production facility, which has grown into a major high school
program and has been expanded to community-wide use. In Granby, Connecticut,
the Granby Education Foundation funded the creation of an ecocenter, where
students and other residents can learn about hydroponics, botany and a
variety of and other sciences.
